Jim Gormley, who has played professionally for more than 10 years and has close to two decades of instructional experience, has been a USC[apos]s women[apos]s volunteer assistant coach for about half of that. Gormley, who became a PGA member in 2003, has been the Head Golf Professional at Palos Verdes Golf Course since 2001.
He first started working at PVGC in 1996. He was named the 2008 Southern California PGA Section Player of the Year, placed third at the 2008 Southern California PGA Section Championship and played in the 2008 Professional National Championship. In 2007, he was the Southern California PGA Section Match Play Champion and played in the Nationwide[apos]s Mark Christopher Charity Classic and the Professional National Championship.
In 2006, he played in the PGA Tour[apos]s Nissan Open. He was tabbed the 2005 and 2006 Southern California PGA Metro Chapter Player of the Year and the 2006 Southern California PGA Metro Chapter Golf Professional of the Year. His professional career has also included stints on the Golden State, Hooters and Canadian Tours. Gormley played for the Cal State Stanislaus men[apos]s golf team in 1991 and 1992, serving as co-captain in the latter year. He received a bachelor[apos]s degree in organizational communications in 1992. Gormley, 49, is married to Mindy Gormley and has three daughters, Megan, 16, Bridget, 13 and Paige, 7.
