THIS SEASON: Julie Smekodub enters her first season at USC after transfering from Tulane following the school[apos]s cancellation of the tennis program... Was granted another year of eligibility after Hurricane Katrina forced evacuation at Tulane... Ranked No. 101 in the ITA preseason singles rankings... Went 3-2 in singles play and 6-1 in doubles this fall at USC... Won the ITA West Regional doubles title with Anca Anastasiu.
AT TULANE: Smekodub was ranked No. 10 in singles and No. 1 in doubles in 2002 as a freshman at Tulane... Won the ITA National doubles title in 2002, marking the school[apos]s first-ever national title in a women[apos]s sport... Reached the ITA national semifinals in singles... Finished her undergraduate degree as a double major in finance and management.
HIGH SCHOOL: Smekodub is a 2002 graduate of Midwood High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.... Won the city Mayor[apos]s Cup Championship.
PERSONAL: Julie Marilyn Smekodub was born on May 21, 1984 in Brooklyn, N.Y.... The daughter of Rita and Leonid... Has one sister, Yelena... Favorite food is sushi and favorite movie is `Braveheart[apos]... Likes to read, shop, dance, and go to the movies in her spare time...Would like to get a job in New York City after finishing her master[apos]s degree in postsecondary administration and student affairs at USC.
