Los Angeles, Calif. -- Melissa Esmero of Huntington Beach, Calif., Bernadette Bayani of Simi Valley, Calif. and Lindsay Deason of El Paso, Texas, have signed letters-of-intent to play tennis at USC, women's head coach Richard Gallien announced today.
Esmero of Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, Calif., is currently the No.1-ranked singles player in Southern California in the under-16 division. Deason has made her name nationally in doubles with prep partner Rochelle Kops-Jones. The duo is ranked No. 1 nationally in the under-16 division. Bayani is ranked No. 5 nationally in the under-18 singles ranks.
"I'm extremely excited to have Melissa, Bernadette and Lindsay join us next year," Gallien said. "The three of them, along with the three current freshmen on the squad, will be one of the most dominant groups of underclassmen we've ever had at USC."
The 1998-99 tenth-ranked USC women's tennis team finished with a 21-9 overall record and 7-1 mark in the Pac-10 (second place). This season, the squad begins dual-match play on Tuesday, January 18 at home against UC Santa Barbara.
