
Men's Golf Team Stands Fifth at Pac-10 Championships

SEATTLE - Arizona State's Paul Casey got off to a good defense of his conference title by carding a 7-under-par 133 in the first two rounds of the Men's Pac-10 Golf Championships Monday at Broadmoor Golf Club. Casey helped push his team, the defending conference champion Sun Devils, into first place with a 697 and two more rounds to play.
Freshman Troy Kelly posted Washington's top marks shooting 2-under in the first round before shooting birdies his final four holes in the second round to finish with a 1-under 69 on the par 70, 6,186-yard track. Kelly is in third place behind Stanford All-American Joel Kribel who fired a tournament-best 64 in the second round to grab second place. UW Junior Scott Kral posted a 68 in the morning, before a 71 in the afternoon to give him a share of fourth at 1-under for the tournament with Oregon's Ryan Lavoie and Andrew Tredway.
Gordy Scutt shaved three strokes from his morning round by posting a 70 in the second round to rest in 15th with a 143. Rob Rashell came in with a 5-over 145 for the Huskies, after an even-par first round. Brett Bockmann accounted for Washington's final strokes with a 75 in the first round and 73 in the second.
Arizona State leads second-place Oregon by 14 strokes going into the third round, with Washington in third at 712, three strokes behind the Ducks. UCLA is only one-back with a 713 in fourth place while USC grabbed the five-spot with a 728, three strokes in front of sixth-place Stanford. Oregon State is in seventh with 736, while Arizona and California are tied for eighth place at 743. Washington State (751) is in 10th.
Third round action begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning at Broadmoor. The final round begins Wednesday morning at the same time.
