Junior Jack Buchanan fired his best round of the season with a 66 (-6).
ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The USC Men's Golf Team moved up to third place out of 14 teams at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational, held at the Golf Club of Georgia on Saturday.
Collectively, the Trojans put together another round under par at the par-72, 7,017-yard track with a 285 (-3) to finish with a 566 (-10). USC is one stroke behind second-place Georgia Tech and four strokes back from the leading Georgia Southern Eagles.
Individually, junior Jack Buchanan had not only one of the best rounds of the tournament, but also his best round of the season with a 66 (-6). He began the day in 46th but rocketed up the leaderboard 40 spots. His lone bogey came on the par-3 No. 3, but Buchanan pushed his score under par with three birdies on the front side. He carded four consecutive birdies from Nos. 8-11 and had four birdies on the back side to wrap up the round. He is currently in a tie for sixth with a 139 (-5).
Sophomore Joshua Hong fired his second 70 (-2) of the tournament to finish with a 140 (-4) total, good for a tie for 10th place. His 70 was an eventful round with six birdies to four bogeys. Hong was one-under at the turn, then had three birdies and two bogeys on the back side.
Graduate student Deitrek Gill fired an even-par 72 and is in a tie for 14th with a 141 (-3). Gill found trouble with two bogeys to just one birdie on the front side, then had two bogeys in the first three holes on the back side. However, he wrapped up the back side with two birdies and the team's first eagle of the tournament on the par-5 No. 18 to bring his score back to par.
Rounding out the Trojans, junior Jaden Dumdumaya is in a tie for 48th, while senior Nicolas Dominguez is in a tie for 73rd through two rounds of play.
