USC Men’s Golf, Gill Place Second at the Trinity Forest Invitational
October 06, 2026 | Men's Golf
The Trojans’ second-place finish was their best of the season.
DALLAS — The USC Men's Golf Team placed second out of 17 teams, while graduate student Deitrek Gill led the Trojans by placing second at the Trinity Forest Invitational, held at the Trinity Forest Golf Club on Oct. 6.
The Trojans fired a 283 (-5) on the par-72, 7,617-yard track to finish with an 835 (-29), which was three strokes behind winner No. 19 East Tennessee State. USC came into the day in the lead, yet ETSU fired a 275 (-13) to claim the title. Chattanooga's Evan Rogers won the individual title with a 200 (-16) after firing a tournament-best 63 (-9) in the final round.
Individually, all four scorers finished in the top 25, led by Gill, who placed second with a 204 (-12). His second-place finish tied his career best and is his best as a Trojan. Gill found trouble on the front side with three bogeys to just one birdie, but turned things around with three birdies and a bogey on the back side to bring his score to par. He was in the lead until he made the turn.
"It felt good to finally be in the lineup and I felt really good about my game," Gill said. "I came out and played well at the start. I think anytime you're in contention to win shows a lot about where your game's at and how you handle it mentally. I'll take it as a learning experience and hopefully get the job done next time"
Senior Nicolas Dominguez broke into the top-10 after firing his best round of the tournament with a 68 (-4) to place eighth with a 208 (-8). Dominguez played bogey-free golf until the final hole. He had two birdies on the front side and three on the back side. This was the sixth top-10 finish of his career.
Sophomore Joshua Hong tied for 21st place with a 213 (-3) after firing a 70 (-2) in the final round. He played bogey-free golf on the front side with three birdies, then birdied No. 10 after making the turn. However, he found trouble on the back side with three bogeys to just one birdie. His 213 was a nine-stroke improvement from the last time he played at the Trinity Forest Invitational as a freshman at UTSA.
Junior Jack Buchanan also tied for 21st with a 213 (-3) and fired a 73 (+1) in the final round. Buchanan began the round with back-to-back birdies, yet he found trouble on the front side with two bogeys and a double-bogey on No. 7. He had three birdies and three bogeys on the back side.
Fellow junior Jaden Dumdumaya tied for 39th with a 217 (+1) after firing a 76 (+4) in the final round.
"We wanted to come away with a win, but I think everybody is just happy enough with how we played," Gill said. "We all have a lot of trust and faith in each other to get the job done and we can keep improving as the season goes on. We're still expecting to have a fantastic season."
USC wraps up the fall slate at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate from Oct. 16-18. All pertinent information can be found on the men's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
