
Men's Golf Team in Seventh at Pac-10 Championships

SEATTLE - Stanford's Joel Kribel carded a tournament-best 7-under-par 63 in the third round of the Pac-10 Championships Tuesday at Broadmoor Golf Club. He stands atop the leader board with a total of 197 over 54 holes of the 72-hole event. Arizona State finished the day with a 356 for a total of 1053 and extended its lead in the team standings to 14 strokes over second-place Oregon.
Washington posted 363 in the third round to drop into fourth place as UCLA carded 356 to give it a five-stroke lead on the Huskies. UW's Troy Kelly, who entered the day in third place, took an eagle 3 on the par-5 18th hole to finish with 72 on the day and 209 for the tournament, good for fifth place. Gordy Scutt fired the Huskies' low-ball, coming in with a 1-under 69 to finish the day with 212 and grab a share of seventh place. Scott Kral grinded out a 76 to finish tied for 14 with a 215. Senior Rob Rashell registered a 74 to finish with 219 with a round to play. Washington's final tallies came from freshman Brett Bockmann's 79 and Robb Bergeson's 73.
Kribel, who played in the Masters earlier this month, was three-strokes off the course record with a 64 in Monday's second round. Kribel bettered that mark with a bogey-less round Tuesday, finishing with a 63, just two strokes from the Broadmoor course record of 61. With a round left, Kribel leads the tournament with a 356, four strokes ahead of defending conference champion Paul Casey and Oregon's Andrew Tredway, who grabbed a share of second with a 66 giving him a 54-hole score of 205.
The Kribel-led Cardinal came in at fifth place with a 1088, 13 strokes behind the Huskies. California moved into sixth with 1092 after carding the day's best team-score of 354. Southern California was just one stroke back of Cal with 1093. Arizona improved its second-round total by 20 strokes to finish with 1097 for the tournament. Oregon State rests in ninth with 1103 and Washington State is 10th with 1133.
The tournament concludes with the final round beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Broadmoor Golf Club. Washington tees off beginning at 8:42.
