Trojans Host Cleveland Golf SW Intercollegiate Invite

LOS ANGELES - The USC men's golf team will host the Cleveland Golf Southwestern Intercollegiate Invitational on March 1-2 at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
In addition to USC, the other 12 teams in the tournament are four-time defending Pacific-10 Conference champion Arizona State, Arkansas, Brigham Young, Houston, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Pepperdine, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon and Washington. Eight of the 13 teams are currently ranked in the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Top 25.
Play begins with 36 holes on Monday, March 1, beginning at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start and concludes on Tuesday, March 2, at 7:30 a.m. with the final round off the first and 10th tees. A College-Am event is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28, starting at noon. The public can watch all three days of competition at no charge.
The 1999 field of individuals at the Southwestern Intercollegiate features several of collegiate golf's brightest stars, including defending champion Paul Casey of Arizona State, David Gossett of Texas (currently ranked No. 1 in the MasterCard individual rankings), Charlie Woerner, Nick Webb and Jorge Corral of USC, Andy Sanders of Houston, B.J. Schlagenhauf of UCLA, Joel Kribel of Stanford, Hunter Haas of Oklahoma and Andy Miller of Brigham Young.
One of the premier tournaments in collegiate golf, the Southwestern Intercollegiate is celebrating its 22nd anniversary this year. The prestigious North Ranch Country Club, which hosted the 1988 NCAA Championship, is a par-71 course with a course rating of 73.0. Tournament director C.W. Johnson oversees the event, which has seen the participation of some of the biggest names in golf, including Fred Couples, Corey Pavin, John Daly, Billy Mayfair, Willie Wood, Andrew Magee, Dan Forsman, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Bob Tway, Duffy Waldorf, Scott Verplank, Brian Henninger and Tiger Woods.
