EUGENE, Ore. -- Danielle Golay scored 11 of her team-high 19 points in the second half as USC held off Oregon 69-63 before 6,037 fans Saturday at McArthur Court. The Women of Troy defeated the Ducks for the second time this season, while earning their first Pac-10 win on the road.
USC improves to 12-12 overall and 7-7 in the Pac-10. Entering tonight's contest as the conference leader, Oregon falls to 20-7 and 11-4 in conference play. The Ducks are now a half-game behind Stanford for first place in the Pac-10 race.
The Trojans controlled most of the first half, leading by as much as seven. Oregon rallied, however, going on a 10-2 run in the last two minutes of the half to take a 36-33 lead into the lockerroom. Returning to the court, USC took its biggest lead of the game, 58-46, on two Tiffany Elmore free throws with 5:53 remaining in the game. The Ducks fought back with a 13-4 run fueled by six points from sophomore Shaquala Williams as Oregon trailed just 62-59 with 1:52 left. But the Trojans proved to be too resilient as it converted 7 of 8 free throws, including 5-of-6 attempts by guard Camille Norwood, down the stretch to claim the victory and snap Oregon's current six-game winning streak.
In addition to Golay's 19-point performance, USC's Tashara Carter added 10 points, while Lauren Smith-Hams came off the bench to score eight for USC. Forward Tiffany Washington added 11 boards, reaching double figures for the third time this season.
For the Ducks, Williams led all players with 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting. Angelina Wolvert was the only other Oregon player in double-figures with 10 points.
Both teams had trouble taking care of the ball as USC committed 31, turnovers while Oregon had 27 -- season-highs for each squad. For the second-straight game, the Trojans out-rebounded their opponent, 38 to 26.
The Women of Troy return home to face Cal (Feb. 3) and Stanford (Feb. 5) next Friday and Saturday. Both games will be played at the Sports Arena, starting at 7 and 2 p.m., respectively.
