Opelika, Ala. - Kevin Stadler shot a hole-in-one on 17 but the Trojans shot 11-over-par as a team on Wednesday and are tied for 25th after the first day of the 2000 NCAA Men's Golf Championships being held at the Lake Grand National Course in Opelika, Ala. on Wednesday-Saturday (May 31-June 3).
"That shot was my only good shot of the entire round," said Stadler of the par 3, 148-yard hole. "It happened on my eighth hole and I was already three over. In today's round I didn't drive very well. I hit a lot of bunkers. I hit the shot and thought it was a bad shot, then I picked up my bag and heard people cheering."
USC shot 299 as a team and are 27 strokes back of first place Texas. The Trojans must finish in the top 15 after tomorrow to make the cut for the final two days.
