
USC Holds Off UCSD In MPSF Volleyball Opener

Brook Billings had 23 kills and Josh Day added 19 to lead USC to a 30-28, 28-30, 30-20, 30-23 victory over UC San Diego at RIMAC Arena Friday.
In the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener for both teams, Day attacked at an impressive .750 percentage, committing just one error. Mark Dusharme had seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage, while setter Miles McGann dished out 59 assists.
UCSD, playing its home opener, was led by Jim Waller with 22 kills. Griffin Cogorno added 11 kills and Eric Perrine had 10 kills and a team-high .529 hitting percentage. Setter Jordan Hove recorded 51 assists.
With the victory, USC leveled its record to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in league competition. The Tritons fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the MPSF.
The Trojans next host defending NAIA champion Cal Baptist on Tuesday (Jan. 22) at 7 p.m. in the USC North Gym.
