Men's Volleyball Swept By Hawaii In MPSF Matchup

LOS ANGELES - Costas Theocharidis had a match-high 16 kills and 8 digs to lead the No. 2-ranked Hawaii men's volleyball team to a 30-27, 30-19, 30-26 win over USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest on Saturday (March 2) in the USC North Gym.
Hawaii, which also swept the Trojans on Friday (March 1), improved to 21-3 overall and 9-1 in the MPSF. USC fell to 5-15 (its slowest start ever) and 2-12 in the MPSF.
Eyal Zimet and Jose Delgado each added 8 kills for the Rainbows, who outhit Troy, .383 to .117.
For USC, Brook Billings had 11 kills and Josh Day added 7 kills and 3 blocks.
The first game was tied at 24-24 before a Theocharidis kill and a Trojan hitting error gave Hawaii a cushion it never relinquished. The Rainbows jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second game and maintained control throughout by hitting .722. In the final game, Hawaii led 23-22 before it ran off 4 unanswered points and then held on for the victory.
USC next hosts No. 15 UC Irvine on Tuesday (March 5) at 7 p.m. in the USC North Gym.
