
UC Santa Barbara Men's Volleyball Easily Defeats USC

The No. 3-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team made easy work of No. 13 USC with a 30-16, 30-16, 30-18 home Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory on Wednesday (Jan. 31).
The Gauchos improved to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the MPSF, while USC's record dropped to 3-6 and 2-4.
UCSB jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first game and never looked back the rest of the match. The Gauchos hit .506 overall (including .762 in the opening game), served 12 aces and had 11.5 blocks. The Trojans, on the other hand, hit just .108 in the match, had only 3 blocks and didn't serve an ace.
Juan Figueroa led USC with 7 kills, while Hunter Current added 6 kills and Matt Pavlovich came off the bench to get 5 kills.
For UCSB, Evan Patak had 12 kills while hitting .550 and he served 7 aces. Teammate Theo Brunner had 10 kills (hitting .667) and 5 blocks.
USC next visits No. 6 Cal State Northridge on Friday (Feb. 2) at 7 p.m. for another MPSF match.
