
Mangoni Wins 400y IM In Loss At Arizona

Junior Vanni Mangoni won the 400y IM and posted a pair of season-best times to pace the No. 13 USC men's swimming and diving team in a 175.5-113.5 setback at No. 4 Arizona on Friday (Nov. 9) in Tucson, Ariz.
USC fell to 1-1 overall, 0-1 in the Pac-10. Arizona improved to 2-0, 1-0.
Mangoni won the 400y IM in 3:57.80, lowering his season-best from its previous 3:59.39. The Italian native was fourth in the event at the 2007 NCAA Championships. Mangoni also lowered his season-best in the 200y back to 1:49.50 in a third-place swim.
Senior Richard Gosper was second in the 50y free (20.64) while senior Brandon Lovell was second in the 200y fly in a season-best 1:51.87. Gosper was also third in the 100y free (47.30).
Senior Bryce Elser swam the second fastest 100y fly race of the day in a season-best 50.02 while junior Ankur Poseria (50.25), Lovell (50.26) and freshman Tanner Trowbridge (53.66) posted season-bests as well.
Troy's 400y free relay of freshman Jake Grosser, Poseria Gosper and junior Kevin Bartell posted a USC season-best 3:05.90.
Freshmen Derek Roth and Steven Starks were second and third, respectively, on 1-meter and reversed positions on 3-meter.
USC takes on unranked Arizona State on Saturday (Nov. 10) at noon (MST).
