USC, which has beaten the Tigers twice now in the past 3 weeks, improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the MPSF. Pacific remained winless in 2008 at 0-5 and 0-3.
Troy hit .400, Schellenberg hit .522 and added 6 digs and Figueroa had 5 digs. Jimmy Killian contributed 6 blocks, Andrew Vernon had 5 blocks and Luke Morris had 7 digs.
The Trojans outhit Pacific, .394 to .283.

USC broke a 26-26 tie in the first game on a block and then a kill by Troy, and the Trojans were able to hold the lead. USC trailed 4-6 in the second game before going on a 4-0 run behind a kill and then an ace by Austin Zahn and a pair of combo blocks by Vernon and Killian; from there, the Trojans were never threatened. The third game was tied at 17-17 before a Pacific serving error and an ace by Troy gave the Trojans the cushion they needed.
USC next plays at No. 6 Stanford on Friday (Jan. 18) at 7 p.m. in another MPSF match.
