Coach Floyd Talks to the Media
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Chase Budinger had 29 points and eight rebounds to lead Arizona to an 80-69 victory over USC Thursday night in a crucial Pacific-10 Conference game.
Budinger scored 18 points in the second half and made 11 of 20 field goals, including 4 of 7 from the perimeter for the Wildcats (15-6, 5-3).
OJ Mayo scored 23 points, Davon Jefferson had 19 points and Taj Gibson added 17 for the Trojans (13-7, 4-4). Starting guard Daniel Hackett suffered a bruised hip early in the first half after diving for a loose ball and did not return.
Arizona senior Jawann McClellan scored 13 of his 23 points in the first half, making a trio of 3-pointers as the Wildcats finished the first half with a 34-31 lead. McClellan also had eight rebounds.
Budlinger scored a 3-pointer to tie the game 55-55 with 8:19 left in the second half and Arizona pulled away from there.
Jerryd Bayless added 10 points while Jordan Hill had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.
Arizona made 10 of 21 3-pointers and finished with a 37-30 rebounding advantage. Arizona grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and scored 21 second-change points.
