
USC Men's Volleyball Beats Hope International In Home Opener

Freshman Tony Ciarelli had a match-high 11 kills to lead the No. 6-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 30-17, 30-22, 30-23 win over Hope International in the Trojans' 2009 home opener on Friday (Jan. 16) at USC's Galen Center.
The Trojans won their third consecutive match to improve to 3-1, while Hope International-the NAIA's No. 7-ranked team-fell to 0-2.
Ciarelli also had 6 digs, while teammate Tyler Stevens added 10 kills (hitting .533) and 3 blocks off the bench, Hunter Current had 7 kills while hitting .500 and made 3 blocks, Sean Dennis had 5 blocks and Riley McKibbin got 10 digs.
For the Royals, Gary Ramirez had 7 kills and 5 digs, Aurel Stenzel added 5 blo9cks and 4 kills, Rich Camerlengo had 5 kills and 4 blocks and Noah Casaquit had 10 digs.
USC outhit Hope International, .352 to .024.
The Trojans now open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play when they host No. 4 Stanford next Friday (Jan. 23) at 7 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. match versus Pacific on Saturday (Jan. 24). Both matches will be in the Galen Center.
