Senior Ryan Linton fired a 3-under 69 while sophomore Matt Giles was 2-under to move USC into first place after the second round of the UH Hilo Intercollegiate on Thursday (Feb. 5) at the Waikoloa C.C. in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
USC erased a four-shot deficit to Washington to take over first place at 7-under 569 (285-284) thanks to the low team round of the day. The Huskies are second at 573 and are followed by Colorado (584) and Stanford and Texas (585). USC is seeking its second consecutive tournament win.
Giles moved into a tie for fifth place with teammate Jamie Lovemark at 2-under 142. Giles followed his first round 72 with a 70 while Lovemark went from a 69 to a 73.
Senior Tom Glissmeyer is tied for ninth at 1-under 143 (71-72) while Linton moved into a tie for 13th at 1-over 145 (76-69). Linton's 69 was a USC high for the senior. Sophomore Tim Sluiter is tied for 22nd at 3-over 147 (73-74) and sophomore Bo DeHuff, playing as an individual, is tied for 83rd at 17-over 161 (82-79).
Action concludes Friday.
