
Fontan Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

USC junior guard Jio Fontan was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 20-26 it was announced today (Dec. 27) by Commissioner Larry Scott.
In USC's two victories last week over No. 19 Tennessee and Lehigh, Fontan averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals. Those were just the second and third games of the season for the Fordham transfer as he became eligible for competition for the game at Kansas on Dec. 18.
In USC's 65-64 upset win at Tennessee on Dec. 21, Fontan scored 13 points, dished out four assists and had three steals. He helped the Trojans jump out to a 38-32 halftime lead by going 4-for-4 from the floor in the first half with two steals and two assists. The loss was just the fourth nonconference home loss for the Volunteers in the Bruce Pearl era (41-4).
In Fontan's debut at the Galen Center on Dec. 23, he led USC with 21 points in the 76-49 win vs. 2010 NCAA Tournament team Lehigh. Fontan was 4-for-4 from three-point range and added four assists and four steals in the game.
Fontan made 58.3 percent of his shots in the two games (14-for-24) and 80.0 percent of his three-point attempts (4-for-5).
It is Fontan's first career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and the 32nd time a Trojan has been honored.
