
Trojans Take Third At NCAA Fall Preview

Senior Lizette Salas finished third and junior Lisa McCloskey tied for fourth, leading the pre-season No. 1 USC women's golf team to third place in an NCAA Championships-caliber field at the 2010 Texas A&M Fall Preview on Wednesday (Sept. 15) at the Traditions G.C. in College Station, Texas.
USC, featuring two true freshmen, a sophomore and a junior transfer - in addition to Salas - finished in third at 8-under 856 (289-282-285), seven back of first-place Alabama (849) and six behind second-place LSU (850). Duke was fourth (860) while Georgia was fifth (864), Vanderbilt sixth (866) and UCLA seventh (869) in the 18-team field.
Salas fired her third consecutive 2-under 70 to finish at 6-under 210, four back of individual winner Megan McChrystal (206) and two behind Vanderbilt's Marina Alex (208). McCloskey notched the best USC round of the tournament, carding a 5-under 67 to finish at 5-under 211 (74-70-67).
Salas birdied 2 and 14 to go with 16 pars in a very steady day. McCloskey, meanwhile, sunk five birdies without a blemish.
Freshman Rachel Morris improved her score for the third day in row, going 1-under in the final round to take 18th at even 216 (73-72-71). She was even heading into 18 before sinking a birdie. She also birdied the hole Monday.
Sophomore Cyna Rodriguez tied for 30th at 4-over 220 (72-70-80). She was battling for a top 20 finish before a tough final round. Freshman Sophia Popov tied for 67th at 23-over 151 (75-76-77).
