Freshman Kristen Park fired a 4-under 68 while senior Lisa McCloskey was also under par as the duo finished tied for seventh and led the short-handed USC women's golf team to a tie four fourth place after the final round of the 2011 SEC/Pac-12 Challenge at the Holston Hills C.C. in Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday (Oct. 13).
The Trojans, playing with only four players due to injuries and scheduling conflicts, combined for the low round of the day at 1-under 287 and tied for fourth at 16-over 880 (298-295-287), 15 strokes back of first-place Alabama (865). UCLA was second at 869, Auburn was third (879) and Tennessee tied with USC.
"Our fab four have something in which they can be very proud," USC head coach Andrea Gaston said. "It was a big-time field, so this was a darn good performance to have low round of the day. It was a difficult and long course that required a lot of patience on the greens."
Both Park (76-73-68) and McCloskey (74-72-71) finished at 1-over 217 for their seventh-place tie. It was McCloskey's third straight top 10 finish and Park's second in a row.
Park opened with birdies on 3 and 8 before her first bogey at 9. She was still 1-under after 14 holes when she proceeded to birdie three of her final four holes. McCloskey was 1-over after 10 holes but got to below par with birdies on 13 and 18.
Senior Inah Park finished a solid weekend of play tied for 20th at 3-over 219 (73-72-74). She had four birdies during her final round, including three on the front 9.
Sophomore Rachel Morris tied for 59th in the 120-woman field at 11-over 227 (75-78-74). She finished with a solid final round in which she began with a double bogey but finished par over the final 17 holes.
USC is off now until the spring semester. The Trojans return to action Feb. 13-15 at the annual Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
