With thunderstorms in the forecast the No. 3 USC rowing team had their scheduled dual meet with No. 12 Clemson moved up to Friday afternoon at Lake Monticello in Charlottesville, VA. The Trojans were impervious to the schedule change as they won all three events, two with comfortable leads.
Conditions were tough for both teams as all boats raced in strong headwinds and choppy water. Wind was the strongest for the Varsity Four event but diminished slightly towards the end of the racing session. While races were run every five minutes, the last two contests were run after sun down.
Action began with USC's Varsity Four pulling out a tight win over the Tigers. The Women of Troy took the lead early on but Clemson recovered to pull ahead in the third 500m. The Trojans recovered with a strong move in the last 250m to finish with a mark of 8:42.0, winning by 1.5 seconds.
Up next, the Second Varsity Eight finished 10.1 seconds ahead of Clemson with a time of 7:32:0. In the evenings final race USC's Varsity Eight dominated as they finished almost 12 seconds ahead of the Tigers.
USC returns to the water tomorrow to face the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans. Race times are TBA dependent on weather.
