USC senior opposite hitter Murphy Troy was named the 2011 American Volleyball Coaches Association Men's Division I-II National Player of the Year, the AVCA announced today (May 4).
It is the sixth time a Trojan has been named a National Player of the Year. The others: Adam Johnson in 1986, Tom Duke in 1988, Bryan Ivie in 1990 and 1991 and Donald Suxho in 2000.
Troy is a 4-year starter and 2-time (2009 and 2011) All-American first teamer who was selected as the 2011 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Year last month.
He has guided USC into the NCAA Championships, where the No. 1-ranked Trojans face UC Santa Barbara in a semifinal match on Thursday (May 5) in State College, Penn.
