USC sophomore Martin Trainer, who recently won then 2011 Pac-10 Championships individual title, has been named the Pac-10 Men's Golfer of the Month for April 2011, the conference announced Monday (May 9).
Trainer from Palo Alto, Calif., earned Pac-10 Medalist honors after dueling Oregon State's Alex Moore through seven playoff holes at the Pac-10 Championship to capture his first victory as a Trojan. He shot a 5-under 275 at the Stanford G.C., just miles from his hometown. His five-foot par-saving putt on the 72nd hole in regulation not only forced the individual playoff with Moore, but pushed the Trojans into a team playoff with Oregon. USC won on the first extra hole to win the 2011 Pac-10 Championship.
In three tournaments, Trainer posted scores in the 60s in six of 10 rounds, with only one round above 71. In addition to his Pac-10 individual title, he finished tied for fourth at the Thunderbird Invitational (4-under 209) and tied for fifth at the Western Intercollegiate (even-par 210).
