
No. 4 USC Men's Volleyball Sweeps UC Santa Barbara

Tony Ciarelli and Tanner Jansen each had double figures in kills and freshman Robert Feathers had 10 blocks to lead the No. 4-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-14, 25-21 win over No. 15 UC Santa Barbara in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Wednesday (Feb. 1) in USC's Galen Center.
USC improved to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the MPSF. The Gauchos fell to 2-6 overall and remained winless in MPSF play at 0-4.
Ciarelli had 11 kills while hitting .400 and he added 6 digs, 5 blocks and 2 aces. Jansen had 10 kills while hitting .529 and also had 7 digs and 5 blocks.
For UCSB, Miles Evans had 10 kills and 8 digs.
USC hit .397 in the match to UCSB's .071 and the Trojans had 13.5 blocks to the Gauchos' 1.0
In the first set, USC scored 5 unanswered points to go up 12-6 and Troy was never threatened while posting 4.0 blocks. The Trojans jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set and steadily pulled away while hitting .545 and getting 5.0 blocks. USC had a 15-10 lead in the third set, but allowed UCSB to pull within 21-20 before regaining control following 3 consecutive Gaucho hitting errors.
The Trojans next host No. 3 UCLA on Friday (Feb. 3) at 7 p.m. in the Galen Center in retiring Bruins head coach Al Scates' final regular season visit to USC in his 50-year career.
