Rising senior Haley Anderson and superstar graduate Rebecca Soni will lead a contingent of more than 25 Trojans headed to Omaha, Neb., to take part in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials between June 25-July 2, at the CenturyLink Center Omaha.
Additionally, USC diving sisters Victoria and Haley Ishimatsu are currently competing in the U.S. Diving Olympic Trials in Federal Way, Wash.
Prelims of the swim trials begin at 8 a.m. each day and finals begin at 4:45 p.m. PT. All but the fastest heats of preliminaries will be webcast live at usaswimming.org. The fastest 2-4 heats of preliminaries will be broadcast on tape delay by NBC Sports while NBC will air tape delayed coverage of the finals each night from 8-9 p.m. PT. Anderson has already secured a spot on the U.S. Olympic team after she finished first at the recent FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier in Setubal, Portugal, earlier this month.
That race was a 10K in open water, considerably longer than the longest women's indoor race next week in Omaha, a mere 800 meters. Anderson, who won her first NCAA title in March in the 500y free and was third in the 1650y free, is the fourth seed in the 800m free.
She is one of a handful of Trojans who are seeded among the top swimmers in their events.
None is seeded higher than Soni, the defending Olympic champion in the 200m breast and the 2011 World Championships gold medalist in the 100m and 200m breast.
She is not only the top seed in both breaststroke events at the trials, but she owns the fastest times in the world in both events.
Incoming freshman Jasmine Tosky is seeded seventh in the 200m free. She won a gold medal at the 2011 World Championships after swimming a prelim leg on the United States' 4x200m free relay, which went on to win gold. The top six finishers in the 100m and 200m free all qualify for the U.S. Team, the top two in individual events and all six as participants on the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, respectively.
Tosky is also among three Trojans ranked in the top 8 of the 200m fly (she is ranked eighth). Tanya Krisman, a senior in 2012 who is coming off her best-ever NCAA Championships in March, is seeded seventh while recent graduate and former All-American Lyndsay DePaul is seeded fifth.
Other highly seeded Trojans include incoming sophomore Dakota Hodgson (eighth, men's 200m fly), incoming freshman Kendyl Stewart (ninth, women's 200m back) and rising senior All-American Alex Lendrum (11th, men's 200m back).
In addition to the Americans seeking Olympic berths to the 2012 Olympics in London, a number of international Trojans have already earned spots on their respective country's team. Highlighting the list below is former Trojan Ous Mellouli, the defending Olympic champion in the 1500m free, outgoing senior Katinka Hosszu, who won two NCAA titles in March and is a 2009 World Championship gold medalist (400m IM), and rising junior Vladimir Morozov, a four-time All-American in 2012.
