Semifinal Spots For Several Women of Troy

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. -- USC newcomer Brynn Boren was the big winner for the Women of Troy today with a winning day that launches the senior into tomorrow's semifinals for singles and doubles play. She and teammate Zoë Katz make one of three USC doubles duos also bound for the semis, which means there will be one all-Trojan clash set for tomorrow. Boren/Katz are slated to square off against teammates Giuliana Olmos and Zoë Scandalis tomorrow for the right to play in the title match.
At the other side of that doubles draw sits top-seeded Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria. Although she had been in the lead, Santamaria had to retire from her singles match today, however, due to injury, putting the top-ranked Trojan tandem as questionable for tomorrow's semifinal. Santamaria was one of three Women of Troy in today's singles quarterfinals. Freshman Zoë Katz was ousted by No. 13 seeded Jennifer Brady of UCLA while Boren was ahead of her opponent Kim Stubbe of Arizona when the Wildcat had to also retire due to injury.
That puts Boren up against Bruin Chanelle Van Nguyen, who had been the beneficiary of Santamaria's retirement in today's quarterfinal.
