Suh, Jin, Kim all post even rounds, tied for 14th.
Junior Justin Suh, sophomore Cheng Jin and freshman Kaito Onishi all turned in even rounds as the No. 8 USC men's golf team, in its season-opening round, posted in a 3-over effort Friday (Sept. 15) at the 2017 OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational at the Olympia Fields (Ill.) C.C.
The Trojans finished the first day tied for sixth at 283 with host Illinois, three back of a three-way tie for first between Alabama, Oklahoma State and Baylor (280). Texas A&M (281) was fourth with Florida State fifth (282).
The Trojans, winners of five events last season, are playing their first event in three seasons that didn't feature either All-Americans Rico Hoey or Sean Crocker, both of whom are now playing professionally.
Suh and Jin are USC's lone returning starters. Suh birdied three times in his first round of the season, Jin twice. Onishi, in his debut as a Trojan, turned in three birdies, the trio all tied for 14th, six back of first.
Junior transfer Sam Kim also made his Trojan debut today after two seasons at New Mexico and is tied for 37th at 3-over 73 while sophomore Kyle Suppa is tied for 54th at 5-over 75. Kim had two birdies and an eagle on the par 5 1st hole. Suppa had three birdies today.
Play continues Saturday and Sunday beginning at 6 a.m. PT both days. USC will tee off first at that time with Florida State and Texas A&M.
