Gabby Smith Advances to Main Draw of USTA Pro Circuit Event

USC's No. 14 Gabby Smith advanced to the main draw of the USTA Pro Circuit event in Lubbock, Texas this morning (Sept. 18) after defeating Mississippi State sophomore Lisa-Marie Rioux 6-4, 6-2 in the finals of the qualifying round.
Smith will begin main draw play tomorrow morning (Sept. 19).
In order to reach the finals of the qualifying bracket, Smith beat two other opponents in the first two rounds. Smith was victorious over USTA's Kat Facey 6-2, 6-2 in Round 1, and swiftly defeated USTA's Chelsea Kung 6-1, 6-3 to secure placement in the final round.
Two other Women of Troy competed in the qualifying round of the USTA Pro Circuit event. After having a bye in Round 1, sophomore Sydney Van Alphen fell to USTA's Rasheeda McAdoo 6-0, 6-2 in Round 2. Freshman Constance Branstine lost to Arizona State freshman Tereza Kolarova 6-2, 6-3 in Round 1.
