DeVine Streaks Through Singles, Cukierman/Smith Advance In Doubles In Tulsa

Redshirt junior Jake DeVine has now strung together seven consecutive singles wins in Tulsa, Okla., to secure a place for himself in the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships. Victorious through pre-qualifying and qualifying rounds, DeVine joins sophomore Daniel Cukierman in the main draw starting Thursday (Oct. 4). Cukierman also has a place in the doubles main draw alongside teammate Tanner Smith thanks to the duo's winning run in doubles qualifying in Tulsa.

Ranked No. 40 in the nation in doubles, Daniel Cukierman and Tanner Smith whipped up two solid wins on the first day of qualifying doubles action in Tulsa. Today, the pair eked out a 7-6, 7-5 upset of Middle Tennessee's No. 32 Edge/Moonen to punch a ticket to the main draw, which runs Oct. 4-8.

Cukierman already had secured a place in the singles main draw thanks to a No. 31 national ranking on the singles side. The sophomore will now have a familiar face in the draw, as redshirt junior Jake DeVine has ground out seven straight wins to score his place in the singles main draw. DeVine won four matches in pre-qualifying, and has since claimed three more victories in qualifying. In the past two days, DeVine knocked off three ranked opponents — all in three sets. The Trojan topped No. 117 Jason Kros of Virginia Tech 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-1 yesterday, then took down No. 67 Artur Dubinski of Oklahoma State this morning. DeVine would top it off with another comeback effort, beating No. 89 Alex Knaff of Florida State 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-2 this evening to streak on through to the main draw.
