Trojans Move On At Marks Stadium In SoCal Intercollegiate Action

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — The USC men's tennis team is stocked up with three Trojans in quarterfinal action and two USC doubles teams opening up main draw play tomorrow after a solid day of play at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships today at Marks Stadium. After two rounds of main draw singles play, three of four Trojans have secured quarterfinal slots. Doubles main draw play is due to start on Saturday (Oct. 27) along with the continuation of singles action.

After a winning effort in qualifying, freshman Bradley Frye was upended in the first round of main draw action. His Trojan teammates, however, made power moves into the quarterfinals after two wins to open up the main draw. Top-seeded Daniel Cukierman picked up wins over opponents from Texas Tech and Stanford to more on, facing a UCLA foe tomorrow in the quarterfinals. Senior Jack Jaede also rang up two wins, beating opponents from Azusa Pacific and Portland to square off against the No. 4 seed from UC Santa Barbara tomorrow. Junior Riley Smith cruised through two straight-set wins, topping SMU and Texas Tech opponents to earn his place in the quarterfinals against a Stanford opponent.

In doubles, USC has two teams starting up action in the Round of 16 tomorrow. Bradley Frye and Jack Jaede are teamed up for the first time this season, as are Daniel Cukierman and Riley Smith.
