Daniel Cukierman Scores SoCal Intercollegiate Semifinal Spots In Singles And Doubles

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — USC sophomore Daniel Cukierman will pull double duty in semifinal action tomorrow after a winning day in both singles and doubles today at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships, held at Marks Stadium. It could well be an all-Trojan doubles title match, as USC's freshman-senior pairing of Bradley Frye and Jack Jaede drummed up a quarterfinal victory today to move on as well.

USC had three Trojans engaged in singles quarterfinal play today, but just Cukierman was able to advance on straight sets. Jack Jaede and Riley Smith, meanwhile, both stretched their quarterfinal matches to three sets, but their respective opponents would eke out the wins to wrap Jaede and Smith's singles runs. Top-seeded Cukierman will face No. 3 seed Andre Rotsaert of Stanford tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in his semifinal bout.

In doubles, Cukierman paired up with Smith to great success, knocking out UC Irvine's Barthe/Krasnov with a swift 8-2 decision to advance to the semis to face Stanford's Rotsaert/Sridhar tomorrow at 10 a.m. Frye and Jaede would fend off UCLA's Pereira/Wild with an 8-6 decision to take a spot in the opposite semifinal. Frye and Jaede will also face a Stanford pair in No. 2 seeded Kumar/Sah tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Frye is also making strides in singles consolation action after a walkover and a win today to advance to tomorrow's next consolation round.
