Souza, Fusaro Top USC At Trojan Diving Invitational, Swimmers Down Fresno Pacific

Mulcare, Hansson, Sancov all double winners Friday.
Juniors Carly Souza and Naomi Gowlett finished 1-2 in the women's 1-meter while Henry Fusaro topped the college divers in the men's 3-meter to highlight the first day of the Trojan Diving Invitational on Friday (Nov. 9) at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
Souza won the 1-meter with a combined 551.20 points, including a prelim best 283.10. Gowlett was second with 523.05 points, 260.60 coming in prelims. Senior Madi Witt was fourth for the Trojans with 484.75, 245.90 in prelims.
Fusaro took the 1-meter with 755.60 points while junior Brad Dalrymple was third overall with 644.35 points.
Shortly after the diving meet, the USC swimmers faced Fresno Pacific in a dual meet with the Trojan women improving to 4-0, the men to 3-0.
Among the winners for the Trojans on Friday were Louise Hansson in the 200y free (1:44.23) and the 100y fly (50.40), the latter time just 0.60 off her NCAA-title-winning time from March.
Freshman Alexei Sancov won both the men's 100y (43.96) and 200y free (1:35.44), both season best swims. Senior Patrick Mulcare also won both the 100y back (48.91) and the 200y back, the latter race in a rare solo swim (1:40.75), shaving two seconds off his season best.
The Trojans posted a handful of other season bests, including Caitlin Tycz crushing her season best 200y fly with a 1:54.89, Kyle Grissom's 19.83 in the 50y free, Alex Valente's 1:46.23 in the 200y fly and breaststroke specialist Riley Scott lowering her PR in the 500y free from high school to 4:54.45.
USC hosts the Alumni Relays on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. while the Trojan Diving Invitational continues Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m.
