Sophomore Allisen Corpuz tied her season-best 70 while freshman Jennifer Chang matched it to lead the No. 12 USC women's golf team on the first day of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at the English Turn Golf and C.C. in New Orleans on Sunday (Feb. 18).
USC, in its second spring event with its new, seven-underclassmen lineup, combined for a 5-over 293 for fourth place, 10 back of first-place Florida and nine behind second-place Michigan State in the 17-team event.
Corpuz and Chang are both tied for fifth at 2-under 70, four back of the lead. Corpuz matched her season-best thanks to a four-birdie, two-bogey effort. Chang, in just her fourth round as a Trojan, established her USC best with three birdies against just a bogey on 18.
Freshman Alyaa Abdulghany is tied for 31st at 2-over 74, which included a 1-under front 9. Sophomore Divya Manthena and freshman Gabi Ruffels are tied for 71st at 7-over 79.
The Trojans will tee off in the second round on Monday at 7:45 a.m. PT with North Carolina State and Central Florida.
