THIS SEASON: Jennifer Chang, a 2019 All-American first teamer as a sophomore and 2018 All-American second teamer as a spring semester freshman, is now a 2020 junior and one of the top golfers in the country. She is ranked among the top 15 amateurs in the world.
2019: Chang was a two-time winner as a 2019 sophomore with eight top 9 finishes and nine in the top 11 who helped lead USC to seven tournament wins including Pac-12 and NCAA Regional titles … She was tabbed a 2019 WGCA All-American first teamer, USC's first first-teamer since the Trojans had three in 2014 (Kyung Kim, Annie Park and Doris Chen) … Chang was also an All-Pac-12 first team pick for the second year in a row and an Annika Award and WGCA Player of the Year finalist ... She finished the season with a team-best stroke average of 72.00, tied for the 10-best season in school history. Her seven rounds in the 60s were tied for fifth most in school history and she was USC's first two-time season winner since Kim in 2014 … She earned co-medalist honors at the Clover Cup on March 17 for her second career medalist honor at 2-under 214 (72-72-70) and captured her third career title at the NCAA Cle Elum Regional at 11-under 205 (70-67-68). Her 54-hole total at the Regional is tied for the fifth best total in school history … In addition to her two wins, other top finishes include ties for fourth at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at 3-over 216 (75-73-68) and at the PING/ASU at 6-under 210 (72-66-72). She tied for fifth at the Stanford Intercollegiate at 4-under 209 (69-71-69) and was sixth at the Pac-12 Championships at 1-over 214 (71-71-72) … In April, she joined teammates Allisen Corpuz and Alyaa Abdulghany in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur Championship. Chang tied for 57th at 10-over 154 (78-76) ... Immediately following the season, Chang played in the 2019 U.S. Women's Open, making the cut and tying for 62nd at 9-over 293 (75-70-72-76). She earned her spot by winning her qualifier in April at the Rancho Santa Fe G.C. ...Later in the summer of 2019, Chang represented the U.S. at the Arnold Palmer Cup, winning two of her four matches. She finished second at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at 9-under and was a quarterfinalist at the 2019 North & South Amateur Championship.
2018: Chang earned WGCA All-American second team honors as a 2018 freshman as well as All-Pac-12 first team honors, leading USC in stroke average (72.43, 17th best in school history) after joining the team for the spring season. She closed the season with seven consecutive top 15 finishes, including one win at the Silverado Showdown and three other top six finishes … She had a team-best-tying four rounds in the 60s, had eight rounds under par and 12 rounds of par or better … Chang tied for first at 8-under 208 (66-72-70) at the Silverado Showdown, her first round a USC season-best. It was USC’s first individual win in two seasons … Chang tied for second at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at 3-under 213 (70-69-74) for her first collegiate top 10 and followed it with a third at the Bruin Wave Invitational at 6-over 222 (76-71-75). She won two of three matches at the SDSU March Mayhem, defeating Cal’s Marianne Li, 5&3, and Texas’ Kaitlyn Papp, 2&1, in the final … She tied for 15th at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships at 4-over 220 (72-76-72) before leading all Trojans with a sixth at the NCAA Madison Regional at 5-under 211 (73-70-68) … She also led all USC golfers at the 2018 NCAA Championships stroke play, tying for 13th at 1-over 289 (72-75-74-68). She played a pair of All-Americans in NCAA match play, falling to Duke’s Leona Maguire, 1up, and Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson, 2&1 … Among her 2018 summer highlights was a seventh at the Canadian Women’s Amateur at even 279 (71-68-69-71) and a tie for seventh at the 2018 North & South Amateur and a spot in the Round of 16 … She played as an amateur in the 2018 U.S. Open, but missed the cut.
HIGH SCHOOL: Chang was a two-time prep All-American and her state’s first four-time state champion (2014-17) -- and a multiple all-state first-team selection -- at Athens Drive High in Raleigh, N.C. One of the top juniors in the U.S and ranked among the top 100 amateurs in the world, she was a finalist at the 2017 U.S. Junior Girls' Championships and earned an exemption into the 2017 U.S. Women's Am. Also in 2017, she finished second at the AJGA Polo Golf Junior Classic, played at the PING Junior Solheim Cup and participated in her second Wyndam Cup in a row. Additionally, Chang won the Triangle 6 4A Conference tournament with a 10-under 61, the lowest 18-hole score recorded in North Carolina prep history (boys or girls). As a 2016 junior, she advanced to the semifinals of the North and South Women's Amateur, finished second at the World Junior Girls Championship while helping the U.S. to third overall, posted top 6 finishes at a pair of AJGA events and won the North Carolina state high school title for the third year in a row. As a 2015 sophomore, she was second at the AJGA Girls Championship and was seventh at the AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions.
