No. 2 USC Women’s Golf Tied for Second after Round One at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate

LAKE ELMO, Minn. — The No. 2 USC women's golf team is tied for second place out of 12 teams after Monday's first round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, held at the Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minnesota.
Squaring off against a competitive field with eight teams ranked in both Golfweek and Golf Channel's preseason polls, USC started the day in ninth but clawed its way into a three-way tie for second with an even-par 288 at the par-72, 6,267-yard course. The Trojans are tied with Virginia and South Carolina, while Oregon rounds out the top five with a 291 (+3). Wake Forest leads the way as the lone team under par with a 280 (-8), while Zoe Cusack of Virginia is the top individual after firing a 67 (-5).
Junior Elise Lee leads the way for the Trojans in a tie for seventh after firing a 71 (-1) in the opening round. Lee found trouble with two bogeys on the first four holes, but she played bogey-free golf after that and pushed her score under par with three birdies on the back side. So far, Lee is the only Trojan under par.
Sophomore Sarah Hammett and senior Bailey Shoemaker are tied for 12th after firing even-par 72s. Shoemaker had both of her bogeys on the front side before a birdie on No. 9 helped turn things around. A birdie on the par-4 No. 15 brought her score back to par.
Like Shoemaker, Hammett found trouble on the front side with two bogeys before recording a birdie on No. 9. Hammett would have just one bogey the rest of the way and two birdies on the back side helped her finish at par.
Junior Jasmine Koo found trouble on the front side with two bogeys and had her lone birdie on the par-4 No. 8. She played bogey-free golf the rest of the way to wrap up her 73 (+1), which is currently tied for 16th place.
Rounding out the Trojans, junior Kylie Chong fired a 78 (+6) and is tied for 50th.
