Justin Suh 66, Kaito Onishi 67 Lead USC In Amer Ari Invitational Second Round

Junior Justin Suh fired a 6-under 66 while freshman Kaito Onishi almost matched him with a 5-under 67, leading the No. 15 USC men's golf team to the fifth-best second-round of the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings' Course in Waikoloa, Hawaii, on Friday (Feb. 2).
The Trojans, in their first tournament of the spring season, posted a 12-under 276 to move to 18-under 558 (282-276), 11 back of first-place Oklahoma State, which finished the second round with a 21-under 267.
Suh, the NCAA's No. 1-ranked player, has now posted six straight rounds under 70 and has been in the 60s 11 times in 14 rounds this season, finishing above par only once this season. He is now second at 9-under 135 (69-66), one back of the lead as he goes for his third win of the season. Suh had seven birdies in his second round and an eagle on 2.
Onishi posted his fourth straight round under 70 to move into a tie for third at 8-under 136 (69-67). He had four birdies today with an eagle on 14 against just one bogey.
Sophomore Kyle Suppa, from Hawaii, turned in a 3-under 69 (his fourth round in the 60s this year) to move into tie for 43rd at even 144 (75-69) with sophomore teammate Cheng Jin (70-74). Suppa finished with five birdies today while Jin had four.
Junior Sam Kim, playing individually, is also tied for 43rd at 144 (75-69) after a 3-under second round that saw birdie five holes, including three in a row at one point. Freshman Issei Tanabe rounded out USC's efforts and is tied for 78th at 4-over 148 (74-74).
Action concludes Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. (PT).
