USC Women's Rowing to Compete in San Diego Crew Classic
March 23, 2018 | Women's Rowing
The USC women's rowing team travels to San Diego this weekend (March 24-25) to compete in the 45th annual San Diego Crew Classic regatta.
This regatta, raced on the waters of Mission Bay, has historically been a strong event for the Women of Troy. Last year, the Trojan varsity four took home the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup after winning the Grand Final in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ race.
From 2011-15, USC's varsity eight won five-straight Grand Finals, receiving the prestigious Jessop-Whittier Cup.
The varsity eight will kick off the weekend with the goal of once again winning the Jessop-Whittier Cup as they hit the water first to compete in the 9:32 a.m. heat against Texas, UCLA, Stanford, Tennessee and San Diego.
The USC second varsity eight will compete next in the 10:40 a.m. heat of the Women's Collegiate 2V against Washington State, University of Victoria, Sacramento State, SMU and Saint Mary's.
Finally, the Trojan varsity four, the reigning champions of the San Diego Crew Classic Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+, will race in the 11:04 a.m. heat against Washington State, San Diego State, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's and UC Santa Barbara.
How USC finishes in these preliminary heats will determine whether the Women of Troy will compete in either the grand or petite finals of the regatta.
The Trojans will also be entering a boat in the women's collegiate 4+ B Final Only race on Sunday morning (March 25) at 11:48 a.m. where USC will be competing against UCLA, Oklahoma, San Diego State, Gonzaga and Kansas State.
