USC Women's Rowing Attends Clemson Invitational

The No. 13Â USC women's rowing team travels to Clemson, S.C. to compete in the Clemson Invitational on April 13-14. The sixth annual regatta, hosted by Clemson, takes place on Lake Hartwell and brings together 21 of the nation's top programs.

While the regatta was supposed to begin on Saturday (April 14) and finish on Sunday (April 15), possible thunderstorms on Sunday have pushed up the racing schedule. The first round of racing will begin tonight (April 13).

The Clemson Invitational, created by former Clemson coach Robbie Tenenbaum, was born out of the concept of the former South/Central Region Regatta. Current Clemson head coach Stephen Frazier-Wong has continued on with the tradition.

"It's a great celebration of women's athletics and specifically, women's rowing," said USC head coach Josh Adam. "Plus, with 21 teams attending, the Clemson Invitational is actually larger than the NCAA Championship. With competition including multiple seven-boat races, this invitational provides a great racing opportunity that very few regattas offer."

Tonight, the USC boats will face crews from Tulsa, UCLA, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 18 Syracuse, Cornell and Clemson in the first round. The varsity four will kick off the racing for the Trojans with a race at 6:36 p.m. ET. The second varsity eight will race at 7:02 p.m. ET, while the varsity eight will close down the evening with a race at 7:28 p.m. ET.

The second round of racing will begin Saturday morning  (April 14) with the varsity eight at 8:46 a.m. ET. The second varsity eight will follow at 9:12 a.m. ET and the varsity four at 9:38 a.m. ET. USC's competitors in the second round will include Tennessee, Louisville, No. 12 Wisconsin, Minnesota, Cornell and Clemson.

Where the Trojans finish in these two rounds will determine placement in the final rounds that will take place on Saturday evening. After the finals, a team champion will be crowned.
