No. 4 BYU Men's Volleyball Sweeps USC In MPSF Tourney Semifinal

Trojans conclude 2018 season.
Gabi Garcia Fernandez, Cyrus Fa'alogo and Brenden Sander each had 12 kills to lead the No. 4-ranked BYU men's volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 home sweep over unranked USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament semifinal match on Thursday (April 19) in Provo, Utah.
The top-seeded Cougars improved to 21-6 overall, while sixth seed USC ended its 2018 season at 8-20, the program's most losses since 2005. BYU will face No. 2 UCLA, a 3-1 winner over No. 13 Concordia in the night's other semifinal, in the MPSF final on Saturday (April 21) in Provo.
Jack Wyett had 10 kills while hitting .364 for USC, while teammate Gianluca Grasso added 9 kills and 3 aces and Ryan Moss had 7 kills.
For BYU, Fernandez hit .556 and served 3 aces, Fa'alogo hit .611 and Sander hit .421. Jarman Price added 6 kills (hitting .500) for the Cougars and Zach Hendrickson had 7 digs.
BYU hit a blistering .529 to USC's .295. The Cougars had more digs (24 to 13) and aces (6 to 3).
The first set was tied at 12-12 when BYU went on an 8-point run and the Cougars coasted in while hitting .667. BYU scored back-to-back points to open a 14-12 edge in the second set and slowly pulled away while hitting .600 with 10 digs and 3 aces. USC notched 5 unanswered points to build a 14-10 lead in the third set, but BYU caught up at 20-20 en route to scoring 7 of the match's final 9 points.
