Women of Troy Advance to Quarterfinals of Pac-12 Championships

The No. 6 seeded USC women's tennis team successfully defeated the No. 11 seed Arizona 4-1 in the first round of the Pac-12 Championships today (April 25) in Ojai, Calif. With the win, the Trojans are 13-9 on the season and will advance to the quarterfinal round where they will challenge the No. 3 seed Arizona State tomorrow (April 26) at 10:30 a.m. PT.
The Trojans claimed the first win of the morning as USC pair Branstine/Westby defeated Wildcat duo Corley/Thomas 6-3 on court three. Arizona struck next as Chypyha/Wesbrooks beat USC's Smith/Weissmann 6-4 on court two. After an intense battle on court one, Trojan tandem Kulikov/Valdes were victorious over Arizona's Lewis/ Van Aelst 7-5 to claim the doubles point.
The Trojans entered singles with a one-point advantage.
USC's doubles momentum rolled over into singles as Trojan Constance Branstine beat Arizona's Marie Van Aelst 6-2, 6-3 on court five. Up next, USC's Madison Westby notched another point on the board for Troy with her 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Wildcat Camila Wesbrooks on court four. The Trojans were up 3-0 overall in the match.
Arizona hadn't lost their fight which showed as Paris Corley defeated Trojan Becca Weissmann 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 on court two.
Finally, USC's Angela Kulikov would have the final word with her 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Arizona's Mary Lewis to clinch the match for the Women of Troy.
