USC Women’s Rowing Travels North for Pac-12 Championships
May 09, 2018 | Women's Rowing, Features
The No. 12 USC women's rowing team travels north this weekend to Gold River, Calif. where the Women of Troy will race in the Pac-12 Championships on Sunday (May 13) at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center at Lake Natoma.
The Women of Troy plan to bring their A-game as they are set to race against a challenging group of teams. Five of the seven Pac-12 crews ranked among the CRCA/US Rowing Coaches Top 20 Poll. Washington, the reigning national champion, tops the poll at No. 1 with California close behind at No. 2. Stanford holds the No. 5 position while USC remains at No. 12. Washington State wraps up the nationally ranked Pac-12 crews at No. 15.
The women's regatta will begin at 9 a.m. with the Novice race, which the Trojans will not be entering a boat. USC will first hit the water at 9:30 a.m. for the Third Varsity Eight followed by the Varsity Four at 10 a.m. The Second Varsity Eight will race at 10:30 a.m. with the Varsity Eight closing out the morning of competition at 11 a.m.
The Pac-12 Conference will host an awards presentation at 12 p.m.
The Pac-12 champion shall be determined by a point system. Placement in each race has a pre-determined number of points that will be awarded to the respective finisher. For the full point system, see the chart below.
Should there be a tie, the finish in the women's varsity eight will be utilized as a tiebreaker.
Last year, USC placed fifth in the final team standings at the 2017 Pac-12 Championships. The Women of Troy finished in third in the Varsity Four, seventh in the Second Varsity Eight and fifth in the Varsity Eight. Washington took home the title after winning all four scoring races.
TV coverage of the event will air in two 30-minute specials debuting on Sunday, May 20 at 11 a.m. PT/12 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Network.
Live results of Sunday's regatta can be found at the Pac-12's rowing championship website.
