USC seniors Gussie Johns and Jordan McLaughlin were named recipients 2017-18 Pac-12 Tom Hansen Conference Medals
SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse senior goalie Gussie Johns (Washington, D.C.) and men's basketball senior point guard Jordan McLaughlin (Etiwanda, Calif.) were announced as USC's recipients of the 2017-18 Pac-12 Tom Hansen Conference Medal on Tuesday, June 28.
Â
The Pac-12 conference medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics, and leadership.
Â
Conference medal winners have been named every year since the 1960-61 academic year. In 2009, the Pac-12 renamed the award the Tom Hansen Conference Medal in honor of Hansen, who retired at the end of June 2009 after serving for 26 years as Commissioner of the Pac-10.
Â
McLaughlin was a three-time team captain and was chosen as co-MVP of the 2017-18 Trojan team. He is USC's all-time leader in minutes played (4,294), second in assists (738), third in steals (213), third in games played (128), fourth in scoring (1,648), and fifth in three-pointers made (185). McLaughlin helped lead team to school-record 26 wins in 2017-18, while the team's 71 wins over the last three years are the most in a three-season period. He graduated with a degree in sociology and earned his master's in communications management.
Â
Johns is a two-time team captain and a four-time All-Conference selection for the Women of Troy. She is USC's all-time leader in games won (61), ground balls (277), saves (484), and games played (81). In international competition, John owns gold medals with Team USA from the 2017 FIL World Cup and the 2017 World Games. She is the first-ever USC player chosen to the U.S. women's lacrosse senior national team. Johns is a three-time conference all-academic honoree, a member of USC's Trojan Athletic Senate, and received the prestigious Trojaneer Diamond Award this spring. She graduated with a degree in business administration.
