
Greg Walker Named USC Men's Volleyball Assistant Coach

Greg Walker, who has been on staffs at nine different schools, including men's head coach the past 3 seasons at Sacred Heart, and also has coached with the USA Volleyball program, has been named an assistant coach with the USC men's volleyball team, Trojan head coach Jeff Nygaard announced today (July 26).

"We are thrilled to have Greg Walker join our men's volleyball staff and the Trojan Family," said Nygaard. Â "Greg brings international experience, USA volleyball strategies, boundless positive energy and an innovative mindset to the coaching staff. Â I am looking forward to getting into the gym as a team and benefiting from his skill sets."

Walker, 30, was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association "30 Under 30" recipient in 2017, an award that honors up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport.

He guided Sacred Heart of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association to a 15-11 mark in 2017 (the third most wins in school history, including a pair of victories over Penn State and a school-record 8 EIVA wins) and was named the EIVA Coach of the Year that season. Sacred Heart was 7-17 in 2016 and 7-15 in 2018. He produced 4 All-EIVA first teamers and 8 EIVA All-Academic team members. In 2016, his Pioneers received an AVCA Team Academic Award.

Since 2015, he also was an assistant with the Sacred Heart women's team, helping the 2016 squad to a school-record 22 wins and the Northeast Conference regular season title. In 2015, the Pioneer women advanced to the Northeast Conference tournament semifinals. Sacred Heart had the NEC Player of the Year in both 2015 and 2016.

While at Sacred Heart, he also was the executive director of the Skywalker Elite Volleyball Club.

Since 2016, Walker also has served as the head coach of the USA Volleyball Men's National Sitting Team. He coached the squad at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janiero and to a silver medal at the 2017 ParaPan American Zonal Championships (qualifying for the 2018 World Championships). He began with the program in 2013 as an assistant, coaching at the 2014 ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championship and the 2015 ParaPan American Games (finishing with a silver medal).

He also has served as a consultant with the USA Men's National Indoor squad that won the 2017 NORCECA Championships (to qualify for the 2018 World Championships), an assistant with the USA Men's National Indoor team at the 2018 Volleyball Nations League (earning a bronze medal), a volunteer coach for USA Volleyball's A2 Men's National Indoor Team and an assistant coach for a Girls' Youth International Team that competed at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships.

He was the men's head coach at Alderson Broaddus in 2015 as the program transitioned from club to NCAA Division I/II status. The Battlers went 21-6 that season, including 7-4 against NCAA competition. Four of his players earned All-Conference honors.

He was an assistant with the Mississippi State women's team in 2013.Â

He was the women's (2012) and men's (2013) head coach at NCAA Division II's Pfeiffer, leading the men to a 17-8 record and the Conference Carolinas Tournament championship as he produced the Conference Player of the Year, 5 All-Conference recipients and 2 Academic All-Conference players.

Before that, Walker was a volunteer assistant for NCAA Division III's Juniata's men for two seasons (2011-12), as well as the women's teams at Mercer in 2010 and Oregon.

He was the head coach of Penn State's women's club team in 2009 after being a student assistant for the Penn State-Altoona women's team in 2007.

He played club volleyball at Penn State-Altoona.

He earned his bachelor's degree in sport coaching from the United States Sports Academy in 2012 after majoring in kinesiology with an emphasis in fitness studies at Penn State. He is working on a master's degree in coaching education and athlete development from Xavier.

A native of Huntington, Penn., he was born on March 29, 1988. He is married and his wife's name is Heather.Â
