Midfielder Erin Bakes is the No. 2-rated incoming freshman on the ILWomen.com Power 100
LOS ANGELES – USC lacrosse freshmen midfielders Erin Bakes (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades HS), Katie Ramsay (Darien, Conn./Darien HS), and Nicole Macolino (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood HS) were each named to the 2018 InsideLacrosse.com ILWomen Power 100 Freshman Rankings on Monday, Sept. 10. Bakes received the No. 2 rating; Ramsay the 47th position; and Macolino was chosen as one of 50 freshmen on the "On the Rise" list.
Last year, goalie Riley Hertford (Lake Oswego, Ore./ Lake Oswego HS) was 12th and midfielder Kelsey Huff (Eastport, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor HS) was rated 13th on the first-ever 100-woman list. Defender Courtney Hutchinson (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton HS) was part of the Watch List. In 2016, before a full Power 100 was published, current junior Kerrigan Miller was touted as InsideLacrosse.com's top-rated freshman. This year's No. 1-rated recruit is midfielder Elizabeth Hillman (Bel Air, Md.) who will play at North Carolina.
Bakes, Ramsay, and Macolino are part of USC's six-woman freshman class, which will compete in the spring of 2019. Attacker Finley Ueland (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West HS), defender Kaleigh Brennan (Summit, N.J./Summit HS), and attacker Chelsea Kovinsky (Monkton, Md./Roland Park Country School) round out the Trojans' incoming group.
USC finished the 2018 season with a 10-8 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the inaugural Pac-12 tournament where it fell to champion Stanford in a narrow 15-14 defeat. The Women of Troy were 6-4 to finish third in the league's regular-season standings. Head coach Lindsey Munday improved to 79-38 (.675) through her sixth completed season. Miller capped her sophomore year as the Pac-12's Midfielder of the Year and received IWLCA All-America third-team honors.
