Lin ties for 15th, Trojans finish 11th.
Junior Kaito Onishi shot a 4-under 68 en route to tying his second-best career finish, leading the Trojan men's golf team in the final round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 20) at The Golf Club of Georgia's Lakeside Course in Alpharetta, Ga.
Recording its tournament-best 288, USC finished 11th at 16-over 880 (289-303-288). Duke won at 2-under 862 with Pepperdine second at even. Host and top-ranked Georgia Tech finished one spot ahead of USC in 10th.
Onishi birdied holes 1, 4, 5, and 8 and collected pars on every other hole to propel him into a tie for third place in the tournament at 5-under 211 (70-73-68). It's one off his best finish as a Trojan, which came as a freshman. His final round today was also a season-best.
Meanwhile, freshman Yuxin Lin posted an even 72 for the day, helping him to 1-over 217 (67-78-72), good for a tie for 15th, his second top 15 in as many tournaments as as a Trojan. Lin made birdies on holes 1, 4, 8, and 18, offsetting a pair of bogeys and a double bogey. Still, it was his fifth round of par or better in six rounds.
Sophomore Cameron Henry came up with birdies on holes 6 and 12 on his way to his tournament-best 1-over 73, leaving him in a tie for 74th at 19-over 235 (84-78-73).
Junior Issei Tanabe concluded his day with a score of 3-over 75, but birdied holes 1 and 11, slotting him in a tie for 52nd at 9-over 225 (76-74-75). Sophomore Charlie Reiter struggled to an 11-over 83 on Sunday to finish 22-over 238 (76-79-83) in the tournament and tied for 77th.
The Trojans will return to the west coast next week for The Cypress Point Classic in Pebble Beach, Calif., Oct. 28-29, the final stop on the fall schedule.
