Women of Troy Victorious In Santa Barbara

The USC women's tennis team defeated the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 5-2 on Saturday (Feb. 16) in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Women of Troy are now 4-1 on the season.
The Trojans claimed the first win of the day as Kulikov/Valdes defeated Gaucho pair Volodko/Yamada 6-2. UC Santa Barbara fired back with a win of their own as Lagarde/Sentenac beat USC's Ewing/Weissmann 6-3. The Gauchos closed out doubles as Goncharova/Valero defeated Branstine/Jaeger 6-4 to claim the doubles point.
USC entered singles at a 0-1 deficit, but that fired up the Women of Troy to battle back. On court two, Angela Kulikov defeated Tiffany Lagarde 7-5, 6-0 to put a point on the board for the Trojans. Following suit was USC's Ana Neffa who beat Gaucho Anastasia Goncharova 6-4, 6-1 on court five. USC now held a 2-1 lead overall in the match.
USC's No. 86 ranked Danielle Willson scored another Trojan point by beating Juliana Valero 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 on court six. Willson remains undefeated throughout the dual match season with a 4-0 record.
Trojan Becca Weissmann would clinch the match for the Women of Troy with her victory over Gaucho Stephanie Yamada 6-4, 7-5 on court four.
Though the match was already clinched by the Trojans, the remaining two courts were played out. No. 24 ranked Salma Ewing defeated No. 123 ranked Elizaveta Volodko 7-6 (8), 4-6, 6-4 on court one. In the final match, USC's Rianna Valdes fell to UC Santa Barabara's Amit Lev-Ari 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-4.
Up next for the Women of Troy is a trip to the Bay Area to take on California in a non-conference match in Berkeley, Calif. on Sunday, Feb. 24.
