Gabriela Ruffels fires 1-under 71 to lead Trojans' second round.
No. 1 USC, behind sophomore Gabriela Ruffel's 1-under 71, remained four off the lead after the second round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Monday (Feb. 18) at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans.
USC, now in second place in its pursuit of win No. 4 this season, sits at 4-over 580 (289-291) after 36 holes, behind only Texas, while Duke is two back of Troy, Florida four behind the Trojans.
Sophomore Amelia Garvey remains in the hunt for her first collegiate crown, tied for second at 2-under 142 (69-143), two back of first. The Kiwi, also eyeing her fourth straight top 15 finish, closed with birdies on 17 and 18 to keep USC in second.
Ruffels is tied for 10th at 1-over 145 (74-71). She had three birdies, including two on 11 and 12, as she battles for her fourth top 10 this season.
Sophomore Jennifer Chang is tied 14th at 2-over 146 (72-74), looking for her fifth top 15 this year.
Junior Allisen Corpuz moved up 17 spots on the leaderboard, into a tied for 27th at 5-over 149 (76-73) thanks to her 1-over second round that saw her birdie 5 and 18. Freshman Malia Nam is tied for 32nd at 6-over 150 (74-76).
