Trojans post their seventh straight top 3 finish this year.
Freshman Malia Nam posted a par 72 to lead the No. 1 USC women's golf team during a cold and blustery final round at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Feb. 19), the Trojans ultimately taking third at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans.
Â
USC fell short of its fourth tournament win this year but did keep alive its streak of top 3 finishes this season at 23-over 887 (289-291-307). Texas won at 12-over 876 with Duke second at 14-over 878. South Carolina finished a shot back of USC.
Â
"The conditions were certainly challenging this week, but it's a good to get this under our belt and get some experience in adverse situations," USC Coach Justin Silverstein said. "We may need to draw on the challenges this tournament presented later this spring or in the postseason.
Â
"For Malia Nam to card an even round was something else today. I'm proud of how the team battled all week."
Â
Sophomore Amelia Garvey finished as the Trojans' high finisher, tying for 15th at 6-over 221 (69-73-79). It was her fifth top 16 finish in as many starts this season.
Â
Nam climbed up the leaderboard for the second day in a row to tie for 17th at 6-over 222 (74-76-72), her sixth top 17 this year. She posted earlier birdies on 4 and 6 en route to tying her best round of the spring season. Only two players in the 93-woman field was better today.
Â
Junior Allisen Corpuz tied for 22nd at 9-over 225 (76-73-76), sophomore Jennifer Chang tied for 29th at 10-over 226 (72-74-80) and sophomore Gabriela Ruffels tied for 34th at 11-over 227 (74-71-82).
Â
The Trojans are off for three weeks, returning to action at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., between March 15-17.
