USC Women Win 5th MPSF Title In 6 Years; Men Tie For 3rd

USC Men and Women Win 4 Event Titles Each On Final Day
USC's women won four more individual titles en route to its fifth conference team title in six season and the Trojan men won four individual titles to finish tied for third at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Indoor Track & Field Championships at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. today (Feb. 23). USC's women scored 120 points and defeated second-place Stanford by 52.5 points, while the men scored 63 points, with BYU winning with 93 points. Winning titles today for USC's women were Angie Annelus in the 60m, Kyra Constantine in the 400m, Chanel Brissett in the 60m hurdles and the 4x400m relay. USC men earning individual event titles were Isaiah Jewett in the 800m, Brendon Stewart in the 60m, Earnest Sears III in the high jump and the 4x400m relay, which set a track record.
Women: 1.) USC – 120, 2.) Stanford – 67.5, 3.) Oregon – 61, 4.) Colorado – 58, 5.) Arizona – 51.
Men: 1.) BYU – 93, 2.) UCLA – 76, 3.) USC -63, California – 63 and Oregon – 63.
- USC's women took control of the meet with a 1-4 sweep in the women's 60m hurdles, led by winner sophomore Chanel Brissett at 8.04. Redshirt senior Dior Hall was second at 8.09 (8.085), junior Anna Cockrell third at 8.09 (8.088) and junior Mecca McGlaston was fourth at 8.19 in the hurdles to combine for 29 team points.
- Freshman Ayden Owens took seventh in the men's 60m hurdles final with a time of 8.09. He earned USC's men's team two points for his seventh-place finish.
- Junior Kyra Constantine won the women's 400m dash with a PR and Canadian U23 record time of 52.07 (in question due to it being a 300m track). She moved from eighth to second on USC's all-time list. Freshman Bailey Lear took third with a time of 53.46 and together with Constantine, earned USC 16 team points.
- Sophomore Zach Shinnick won his heat and finished fourth overall in the men's 400m final with a time of 46.96.
- Sophomore Earnest Sears III won the men's high jump with a clearance of 7-1.00/2.16m. He won with that height, then passed at 7-2.25/2.19m and tried unsuccessfully three times at 7-3.25/2.22m. Freshman Nathan Patterson finished sixth with a clearance at 6-10.75/2.10m. Sears and Patterson combined to earn USC 13 points.
- Sophomore Cassidy Palka tied for 13th in the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-4.50/1.64m.
- Junior Angie Annelus won the women's 60m dash with a PR of 7.29, which ranks 11th on USC's all-time list. Freshman Lanae-Tava Thomas ran 7.33 to place second and sophomore Chanel Brissett was fifth and tied her PR with a time of 7.42. Sophomore TeeTee Terry had a false start. USC's women earned 22 points in the event.
- Freshman Brendon Stewart won the men's 60m dash with a PR of 6.60. He bettered his USC freshman record and moved up to a third-place tie on USC's all-time list with Andre De Grasse. Stewart earned USC's men 10 points in the team competition.
- Junior Isaiah Jewett won the men's 800m race with a time of 1:47.20. Freshman Sam VanDorpe was 11th in the 800m with a time of 1:52.96 and junior Mathew Myrtue was 15th with a time of 1:53.54. Jewett earned USC's men 10 more points.
- The freshman duo of Alyssa Brewer (2:06.92) and Jemima Russell (2:07.69) finished fifth and ninth respectively in the women's 800m race. Russell was .06 seconds outside of scoring, but Brewer earned USC four points.
- Senior Isabella Marten placed second in the women's triple jump with a season-best leap of 41-10.50/12.76m. All six of her jumps were at least 40-11.75. She earned USC eight team points.
- Redshirt junior Matthew Katnik had a best shot put of 63-1.25/19.23m to finish fifth and earn four points. Owen's had a best mark of 42-4.25/12.91m and finished 19th.
- Junior Nicolaus Jakowec placed 17th in the men's 3000m race with a school-record time of 8:09.77.
- Juniors Chloe Berry and Kamryn Weber competed in the women's 1-mile run and finished 20th and 27th respectively. Berry had a season-best time of 4:56.94 and Weber a PR of 5:04.27 to move from 10th to seventh on USC's indoor one-mile list.
- USC closed out the meet with wins by both the men and the women in the 4x400m relay.First the women's team of sophomore Kaelin Roberts, Lear, Brewer and Cockrell won with a time of 3:37.01 to earn 10 points.Then the men's closed the meet in style by winning with a Dempsey Indoor record time of 3:06.40, breaking the record of 3:06.98 which had stood since 2005.Earning USC the 10 points were sophomore Cameron Samuel, Shinnick, Owens and Jewett.
